Technical Analysis (TA) can make investors rich

Introduction:

Don’t depend only on rumors, learn first. You may lose capital if you run with rumors. Share business is not for uneducated persons. It’s one kind of business. So, you have to learn many things before investing. There are many terms, like NAV, P/E, EPS etc. You have to know Fundamental Analysis (FA) and Technical Analysis (TA) both as a successful investor.

What is Technical Analysis?

Now I am telling what Technical Analysis (TA) is. TA is a method to analyze stock and make investment decisions accurately based on its past history. TA works mainly on Price and Volume. Actually TA works 80% on price and 20% on volume. TA does not result in absolute predictions about the future. Instead, Chart analysis can help investors anticipate what is "probable" to happen to prices over time.

In the above chart, Bollinger band (red line) is showing price volatility of stocks. Green line represents 10 days moving average. In the lower portion of this chart is volume bar. Red bar indicates bearish (downtrend) and Green bar indicates bullish (uptrend).
There are few basic TA indicators, such as RSI (Relative Strength Index), MACD (Moving Average Convergence-Divergence), MFI (Money Flow Index), Stochastic, William %R, ADX (Average Directional Index) etc. Moving Average is very useful in Technical Analysis. You can use some popular moving average for trading, like 3, 9, 13; 10, 20, 50, 200 days Moving Average (MA). TA can give you an idea about overbought (Technical person will sell) or oversold (Technical person will buy) situation of your stocks also. TA can define Support-Resistance level of any stocks which represent key junctures where the forces of supply and demand meet. Stock price is related to supply and demand also. TA uses a wide variety of charts that show price over time. You also have to understand some popular and widely used chart patterns.

Few good indicators

Trading with Charts:

AmiBroker is one of the best Technical Analysis software. You can import market data into AmiBroker as CSV/excel format for analysis. There are many AFLs available which can provide buy/sell signal and can be used in AmiBroker. TA may give many fake signals, you have to understand which one is fake or real signal by using different indicators.

Conclusions:

In summary, TA can help you to understand the market trend (bull or bullish); it can also help to get buy/sell decision, i.e. right decision in right time. So, learn Fundamental & Technical Analysis for Minimize Loss & Maximize Profit.

Buying High, Selling Low Why Acting on Price can be a Mistake

Buy low and sell high is the ultimate guide to successful stock investing. It is also the reverse of what many investors do.
It’s not that investors start out to do that, but too often, they use price, and in particular price movement, as their only signal to buy or sell.
Stocks that have gone up recently, especially those with a lot of press, often attract even more buyers. This obviously drives the price up even higher.
People get excited about what they read and see and want a part of the action. They jump into a stock that is already trading at a premium – they buy high.

Traders

Experienced traders can make money jumping in and out of a stock that’s caught the public’s attention, but it’s not a game for the inexperienced and it’s not investing.
There’s risk involved and tax consequences along with other issues that mean most investors should leave this activity to short-term traders.
For most investors, trying to grab a piece of the latest flashy stock, usually means paying too much (buying high).

Bad Decision

The other side of the market is when a stock has fallen; most investors may want to sell along with the rest of the market. If you go by price alone, this can be a bad decision (sell low).
There are many reasons a stock’s price drops and some of them have nothing to do with the soundness of the investment. That’s why if you only follow price you may miss an opportunity.
After a stock’s price has fallen can be a great time to buy (buy low) if you have done your research on the company.

Conclusion

If all you know about a stock is the price, you may (and likely will) make investing mistakes. Remember, if a stock has had a good run up it may be time to sell, not buy (sell high). Similarly, if a stock has dropped like a rock, it may be a good time to buy rather than sell (buy low). You won’t know what to do unless you understand a lot more about the company than its stock price.

Bollinger Bands

Introduction:

Bollinger Bands are a Technical Trading tool created by John Bollinger in the early 1980s. Bollinger bands are probably one of the most important indicators ever developed for measuring price action volatility. You can use to achieve near perfect entry and exit consistently. There are a few variations on how to use Bollinger bands depending on market conditions.

You can use Bollinger bands as a very accurate indicator within any time frame.

Bollinger Bands Basic:

Bollinger Bands are a way to display volatility and relative overbought and oversold price levels over a specific period. The three parts are commonly labeled as a Center line, Upper band and Lower band. The center line is usually a simple moving average, while the upper and lower bands are simply the centerline with a standard deviation added or subtracted.

The standard settings for the Bollinger Band are a 20-day simple moving average for the center, with a 2 standard deviation set for the outer bands. There is no best setting, but when developed the (20, 2) setting were used by John Bollinger, and will work for most stock charts.

How to trade with Bollinger band

The candlesticks present represent current approaching price action to the upper band or lower band. Lets start with number 1 to number 8, one by one.

1. Extremely bearish, price is falling to a lower band and the KEY is of course watching both the upper and lower band as price approaches. In this case the upper is rising while the lower is falling indicating not only a potential explosion in price but one to the downside is extremely likely.
2. Extremely bullish, price is rising to the upper band and the KEY is keeping a watchful eye on BOTH band as price approaches. In this case the upper band heads UP and the lower band falls, indicating a potential price explosion to the upside.
3. Price approaches the lower band while the upper and lower band remain flat. This is very insignificant and should be ignored unless things change.
4. Price approaches the upper band while the upper and lower bands remain flat. This is also insignificant and best left for the amateurs to enter.
5. Bearish candlestick at a lower band while band constrict - this is a sign that price is likely at least for now going nowhere. Wait do not enter.
6. Same here, a bullish candlestick at the upper band while the bands are constricting is a sign that not much is about to happen just yet.
7. Like number 1 this is a sign that price is going to make a nice move but the lack of the upper band hooking up indicates that the move for now won't necessarily be explosive.
8. Also similar to its counterpart in that price will likely move but not to the explosive level that would be expedited if the lower band was hooking downward.  The lack of the lower band hooking down limits the potential move here.

Conclusions

Bollinger Bands reflect direction with the 20-period SMA and volatility with the upper/lower bands. As such, they can be used to determine if prices are relatively high or low. According to Bollinger, the bands should contain 85-90% of price action, which makes a move outside the bands significant. Technically, prices are relatively high when above the upper band and relatively low when below the lower band. However, relatively high should not be regarded as bearish or as a sell signal. Likewise, relatively low should not be considered bullish or as a buy signal. Prices are high or low for a reason. As with other indicators, Bollinger Bands are not meant to be used as a stand alone tool. Chartists should combine Bollinger Bands with basic trend analysis and other indicators for confirmation. So, Bollinger bands is a very accurate indicator within any time frame.

Make profit by using Moving Averages

A moving average line is just the average price of a stock over the period of time. The Two Moving Averages Use two moving averages: the 10-SMA and the 30-EMA. I like to use a slower one and a faster one. Do you know Why? Because when the faster one (10) crosses over the slower one (30), it will often signal a trend change. Let's look at an example: Delta Spinning chart of moving averages:

Chart of Delta Spinning

You can see in the chart above how these lines can help you define trends. On the left side of the chart the 10 SMA is above the 30 EMA and the trend is up. The 10 SMA crosses down below the 30 EMA in mid August and the trend is down. Then, the 10 SMA crosses back up through the 30 EMA in September and the trend is up again - and it stays up for several months thereafter.

Here are the rules: Focus on long positions only when the 10 SMA is above the 30 EMA. Focus on short positions only when the 10 SMA is below the 30 EMA. It doesn't get any simpler than that and it will ALWAYS keep you on the right side of the trend! Note that moving averages only work well when a stock is trending - not when they are in a trading range. When a stock (or the market itself) becomes "sloppy" then you can ignore moving averages - they won't work! Here are the important things to remember (for long positions - reverse for short positions.):

1. The 10 SMA must be above the 30 EMA.
2. There must be plenty of space in between the moving averages.
3. Both moving averages must be sloping upward.

The Foundation Southwind AFL

Here is an interesting and colourful AFL code which i found it over the web coded by Mr.Southwind (Dont know who he was… But simply the AFL code reads so). This is a very simple and easy afl for beginners.
The Foundation by Souwind AFL
It is a combination of many good indicators. When i explored the AFL code it contains the Heiken Ashi candle and as usual ATR trailing stop loss line along with the Heiken Ashi candle. And more technical indications like Support-Resistance Pivot Basic Stochastic ,RSI, MACD, ADX and few more technical interpretations on the left side of the charting space. At a first time giving a impression that the trading system is much complicated. But it all just a combo Package of simple trading interpretations. Moreover I hadn’t explored much with this indicator. If you have free time then just go through the indicator.

The color of the Heiken Ashi candle shows blue color for the uptrend and yellow for the sideways trend and the red color to indicate the downtrend. The Colored Candles of  nifty daily chart is shown above.

Download The Foundation Southwind AFL

To Install this indicator
1) Extract the Foundation-Int.rar and save it in your local Hard disk drive

Don't be a Victim of Investing Scams

Don’t be a victim of an investment scam. It is easier than you think for crooks to con you out of your hard earned money if you let your guard down.
Investment scams come in many forms and the Internet has just made it easier and faster for these vultures to feed on investors tempted by the possibility of an “inside deal.”
The people who run these scams range from the very crude and clumsy to the highly polished and sophisticated who wrap their con games in such an air of legitimacy it may be hard to see the truth.

The Scams

What do these scams look like? There are many different types floating around the Internet, so it would be impossible to identify them all – besides a new one will pop up tomorrow. However, there are some signs you can look for:
  • Someone you don’t know promises you an “inside” deal. Why would a stranger pick you out to make rich? Does that make any sense?
  • You are offered a can’t miss trading system guaranteed (or your money back) to make you rich. There is no such system – and if there were, why would anyone want to sell it?
  • There are no secrets, no passwords, no unrevealed whatever. Don’t pay for anything like this.
  • Someone has a very complicated scheme involving offshore bank financing or gemstones or oil leases in Uzbekistan to make you rich. Why get involved in a complicated scheme you don’t understand (there’s a reason you don’t understand it – it’s designed that way), when there are plenty of opportunities that are legal and you can understand.

Popular Scam

One of the most popular stock schemes is called “pump and dump.” Here’s how it works.
A group of crooks buys up a block of stock in a little know company, preferably one that has a semi-exciting technology name. They get on the Internet and begin flooding cyberspace with false rumors about how this company has some breakthrough technology or just signed a super deal.
They may even develop phony letterhead and send out press releases about the company. In some cases, the company knows nothing about the scheme. It becomes a victim too. In other cases, company insiders execute the scheme.
If the crooks are successful, the stock’s price will jump as they convince people they are getting in on the ground floor of some big deal.
After the stock goes up, the crooks decide when they think it has gone as far as it will go and then they sell their big block of stock for a fat profit. When they sell, the price drops and all the people they conned into buying lose money.
A variation of this scheme is for the investors to short a stock then hop on the Internet and spread lies about how the company is in trouble or about to face some criminal proceeding. When the stock drops, the short sellers cover their positions for a big profit.

Conclusion

Schemes come in many forms to separate you from your money. They all have one thing in common: very high returns. The sad truth is that many people fall for these schemes because their greed overcomes their reason. Don’t let this happen to you.

Make profit by 3*13*39 Moving Average Method

Most people are comfortable with the herd, market rumours, broker tips, etc. But by confirming your trading decision with the help of this trading system, you will be on the way to more profitable trading.

This simple and robust trading systems will not only identify trends, but will also provide you with entry and exit trading signals.

The Trading System

Remember the numbers 3 x 13 = 39

Simple daily moving averages of 3,13 and 39 can keep you in and out of markets fairly efficiently and profitably, (in any time frame actually). Here's how.

Some basic principles to understand are:

-The market moves in long (secular) trends.
-Intermediate trends can last for months to years.
-Short term trends can last for days to weeks.
-Trade intermediate trends in either direction.
-Trade short term trends only in the direction of the intermediate trend.

Proxies:

3 Day MA - a proxy for price
13 Day MA - a proxy for the short term trend (a moving trend line)
39 Day MA - a proxy for the intermediate trend (a moving trend line).

The Basics of MAs

MAs lag market reversals at tops and bottoms, the larger the MA the longer the lag period, the shorter the MA the shorter the lag but the more frequent the whipsaws. MAs work well when markets trend but get frequently whipsawed when they are in a range.

Therefore, trade trends with the MAs but do not trade ranges using MAs. Just stand aside and be patient until a new trend emerges.

The intermediate trend is in the direction of the 39 MA which acts like a moving trend line. If the 39 MA is pointing up then the intermediate trend is up, if down the trend is down. If the 39 MA is horizontal the market is in a range, from which a trend will, sooner or later, emerge.

Analysis by 3*13*39 Trading Strategy

Simple Trading Rules

1. When the 39 MA is moving up buy when the 3 MA crosses up over the 13 MA. and/or when the 3 MA crosses above the 39 MA.. When the 13 MA crosses above the 39 MA consider adding to your long position. Exit and stand aside when the 3 crosses back below the 13 MA..

2. When the 39 MA is moving down sell short when the 3 MA crosses below the 13 MA. and/or when the 3 MA crosses below the 39 MA.. When the 13 MA crosses below the 39 MA consider adding to your short position. Exit and stand aside when the 3 MA crosses back up over the 13 MA.

3. Only initiate trades in the opposite direction of the intermediate trend when the 3 MA crosses above or below the 39 MA, preferably after the 39 MA has already changed direction.

4. This 3:13 MA crossover will keep you trading in the trend with only a small lag and on the sidelines during corrections. The lag only becomes more substantial at reversals of the intermediate trend (a 3:39 crossover), a small price to pay at these uncertain times of trend transition.

You can set your technical analysis sofware to show bar charts with these 3X13x39 simple MAs. This trading system will help you select the best traders while avoiding the less profitable trades in choppy markets.

Is ADX the best Technical Indicator?

ADX (Average Directional Movement indicator), most of the peoples are saying that ADX is probably the best indicator. ADX was developed by J. Welles Wilder in order to evaluate the strength of the current trend.
Technical Analysis of Delta Spinning as per ADX
It is an oscillator that fluctuates between 0 and 100. Below 20, it indicates a weak trend and while above 40, it indicates a strong trend.

Another two indicators come with ADX, they are called the Positive Directional Indicator (+DI) and the Negative Directional Indicator (-DI). +DI measures the force of the up moves and –DI measures the force of the down moves.

There is a lot of use for this indicator, some people suggest buying when ADX > 40, others when ADX is rising and DI above -DI.

Awesome Oscillator Technical Indicator (AO)

Awesome Oscillator Technical Indicator (AO) is a 34-period simple moving average, plotted through the middle points of the bars (H+L)/2, which is subtracted from the 5-period simple moving average, built across the central points of the bars (H+L)/2. It shows us quite clearly what’s happening to the market driving force at the present moment.
Awesome Indicator
This indicator plots the oscillator as a histogram where blue denotes periods suited for buying and red . for selling. If the current value of AO (Awesome Oscillator) is above previous, the period is considered suited for buying and the period is marked blue. If the AO value is not above previous, the period is considered suited for selling and the indicator marks it as red.

Caution: Don't follow only one indicator, use other indicators to confirm buy-sale signals

Technical Indicator: William Alligator for Amibroker

This is an accurate Alligator indicator based on the mid price and smoothed as Bill Williams specifies.
This Alligator is also projected into the future as Williams prefers.
Here is a screenshot of how the indicator looks:
Alligator Indicator

Bill Williams describes the Alligator as being like a compass which keeps your trading in the right direction. The Alligator helps you spot a real trend and stay out of range-bound trading, which always result in losses. The Alligator is the combination of three balance lines:

Alligator’s Jaw (the blue line) – 13-period moving average at the mid price (High+Low)/2, which is offset 8 bars into the future;

Alligator’s Teeth (the red line) – 8-period moving average at the mid price (High+Low)/2, which is offset 5 bars into the future;

Alligator’s Lips (the green line) – 5-period moving average at the mid price (High+Low)/2, which is offset 2 bars into the future.

What the Alligator does?

The Alligator identifies trending & non-trending markets. It also specifies the direction of the trend.

Basic Rules

If all three lines are intertwined, the Alligator is asleep and the market is range-bound. The longer it sleeps, the hungrier it gets. When it wakes up from a long sleep it chases the price much farther, therefore price movements are much stronger.

When the Alligator is asleep, stay away.

If the Alligator is not asleep, the market is either uptrending or downtrending:

- if the price is above the Alligator’s mouth then it’s an uptrend;
- if the price is below the Alligator’s mouth then it’s a downtrend.

Once the Alligator wakes up, it opens its mouth (the three lines diverge) and starts hunting. Having eaten enough, it goes to sleep again (the three Lines converge), so it’s time to take profits.

Quick tips how to use "William Alligator"
Buy when candelstick is above the blue line (jaws) / Pass Jaws line.
Sell when candelstick is under / pass jaws line.
